My Story

My origins
I inherited my passion for wine from my father Christian, whose guiding principles have always been love of the terroir and respect for a job well done. The human aspect is at the heart of my relationships with winegrowers. As a true conduit of emotions between winemaker and consumer, I want above all to pass on a heritage, a unique terroir, and share all the richness and diversity of Burgundy's great wines.
When my professional career took me to Asia, I always kept one foot in the wine business, in particular by helping Burgundy producers find local distributors. After several years abroad and in the Paris region, I decided to return to my beloved region, and we settled with my wife and our children in Santenay, to boost the development of our family business.
What Wonderful Wine has 10 years' experience in selecting, advising on and selling fine Burgundy wines. Thanks to our history and geographical proximity, we've forged close, long-lasting ties with winemakers. This gives us access to exceptional wines whose rather confidential distribution gives our selection its unique character.

A region close to my heart!
Burgundy is a wine region steeped in history, producing some of the world's most refined and exclusive wines. Burgundy is made up of five main regions, each with its own distinctive character. Four of them stretch over a narrow strip of 120km between Dijon and Mâcon. From north to south, we find the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune, Côte Chalonnaise and Mâconnais. To the north-west of the Côte de Nuits is the Chablis vineyard, producing white wines whose distinctive character makes it a region in its own right within Burgundy.
The international renown of Burgundy wines today is well established. This historic stretch of land traces its origins back several million years, when the vineyards were entirely covered by the sea, providing the soil with a wealth of limestone and marl. It is the unique composition of this soil that gives Burgundy wines their prized originality.

This uniqueness is closely linked to the notion of terroir, which is expressed by the term "climat". Climat is a specific term used to describe a parcel of vines that has its own characteristics, its own history and its own place within the Burgundy vineyard. Today, there are over 1,000 climats in Burgundy, representing the unique know-how of local winemakers in a breathtaking landscape. It is therefore with great legitimacy that the climats du vignoble de Bourgogne were inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List on July 4, 2015.
Burgundy is also the promised land of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which dominate the majority of production, occupying 39.5% and 51% of the vineyard surface respectively. Gamay and the famous Aligoté are also produced in smaller quantities! Most Burgundy wines are made from a single grape variety. Blending is reserved for a few rare exceptions. This single-varietal approach to winemaking embodies the golden triangle represented by man, terroir and climate! It's this perfect balance that enables Burgundy to produce unique wines of unrivalled finesse.
